- Known as Elmbank, the Henry E. Prentiss House was first owned by Thornton McGaw. It was known as Weed House when it was built in 1835. Details about this earlier house are scarce. Prentiss bought the property and began remodeling it in 1868. He added the mansard roof, which created a full third story, as well as the angled portico, Italianate trim, and a gazebo (not visible in photograph). The house still stands at 31 Kenduskeag Avenue.
