- Bangor Savoyards was started in 1948 by Gertrude Allingham as part of a fund raising campaign for the Schumann Club.
- On August 24, 1966, eighteen women from Bangor and surrounding towns, created the present Symphony Women organization to aid and promote the Bangor Symphony Orchestra.
