- Garland Louis Strang. Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army Air Forces, 8th Air Force. 16 October 1923 - 4 May 1943. Killed in action, England, fighting as rear gunner of the Flying Fortress "Hell Below." While training, visited every U.S. state. Bangor High School, 1941. Outstanding athlete: captain of Bangor's first state championship football team. Remembered at Bangor High by an annual award to the leading athlete of the graduating class. 11043446
