Theodore J. Chase. Chief Boatswain's Mate, U.S. Navy. U.S.S. Suwanee. 3 November 1901 - 24 October 1944. On his eighteenth birthday enlisted to begin four years in the Navy following World War I. Reenlisted August 1942 for World War II. Killed in action in the Pacific theatre after eighteen months of overseas duty. For thirty-five years a resident of Bangor where he was in business between wars. 2086097

Bernard Striar. Private First Class, U.S. Army. 350th Infantry Regiment, 88th Division. 23 December 1921 - 29 September 1944. A 1939 graduate of Bangor High School, he was killed in action in heavy fighting. Monte Battaglia, Italy (27 Sept - 30 Oct.). His Unit outnumbered 4 to 1 and surrounded on three sides, held its ground against more than twenty attacks. The 350th suffered 1420 casualties. PFC Striar was one who made this sacrifice.
